Hatchet has been an idea that Mark and I (Steve) have had for a few years. Im not sure whether it was the numerous adventures ending early due to poor gear, or finishing university and finally getting regular income, that our focus shifted to quality. There was no longer any excuse to sacrifice quality, and we made it our mission to search for the best products from New Zealand and around the world that we could use everyday. We found great joy in finding knives, axes and packs that will be around for generations to come. It wasn't until 2016 that we decided to open a store, we reached out to the brands we have been using for the last decade and they were keen to get onboard. Our thoughts became, if we like them, our mates might too.
Hatchet. It's likeness was one of man's oldest and greatest discoveries. Even though times have changed, some things haven't. The hatchet is still a symbol. It stands for something; a way of life. Working hard, getting outside, staying tough and remaining humble. It serves as a connection to nature, to exploration and to craft. It stands against mediocrity. It's not about having more, it's about having less but having better. That mentality rings true with us. Hatchet embodies all of these things. It's another destination on the list, albeit a digital one. A place to find goods that share the Hatchet mindset; that goods things are simple, quality things. We sell the things we want to eventually hand down to the next generation. And not after a life on the mantle piece either.
See you out there
